Wow! The soldiers were so well painted that I thought they were a picture! I can't wait to see how the background is going to look.

the characters here look awesome!!!! they're definitely the strongest part of this image.

For the color of the back ground I would show little if any sun coming through the trees. Just make some of the leaves dark and light so that the sun looks like it is coming through but it's not. The sky will come through the trees but make the sky a mucky gray. I would keep the bark in the foreground a mid to dark brown with some highlights and then make the bark in the background blurry and a dark brown color.
