Black and White painting
Random painting I did while sitting in on the computer paint class. I didn't really receive a critique for it, but I really love a lot of the techniques I used and really would like to know what you guys think. This isn't really a character critique so much as a painting critique, but if you have thoughts about the character I'd love to hear it. =)
Re: Black and White painting
When painting without lines its important to remember contrast. Not just contrast in your value, but also in your hue and edge flow. Hue doesn't really apply for this piece, so I'm gonna stress edge flow. A big issue that a lot of people have is blending too much.
Here's a small illustration to help explain:
So I did a quick over paint of your piece and if you compare the two side by side you can see that sharper edges and occasional hard brush strokes in detailed areas can really make your work more visually interesting.

Hey Candace,
Since you're asking, I took a little time to do a quick sketch over your work too! how about that. Here is what I did:
Thinking a bit more about big shapes and loosing detail, i streamlined some of your contours. I unbent the Screen Left arm and moved the arm flab on the right arm up a bit.
Another interesting thing that I find helpful is, just a the edge of a class, your clothes will wrap a around your character. I changed the angle of that ellipse shape a bit because of the location of your camera. The original shows her dress lifting up a bit, I switched it to fit more evenly around the legs of your character.
Hope that helps and keep posting!

Re: Black and White painting
Thanks you guys. This is great feedback. I wasn't expecting such awesome notes so soon.
Re: Black and White painting
Would be nice to see you take the notes and fix up this painting. But if you don't have time just remember them because they are great notes!
