Stuff that I have found.

Post by jonbaldi on Mon Jan 13, 2014 5:41 pm

Hey group, I really look forward to see what we can come up with and what will be done. So I started to look for different places that come up with some good results, and found some good stuff.
Polarbeardog tumblr (all sorts of avatar clips, fanart and other stuff that may spark interest or creativity)
korranation tumblr (or this one which seems to have more line work)
Elemental pr0n references (many photo of elements only)
Earth pr0n (for earth references)

From there, you can simply change /r/earthporn to /r/waterporn and what not. great photos references.
I'll post my personal favorite references once I go through them.
Also, I bought The Art of Legend of Korra from amazon. I'll bring it in the next monday

Creativity HOOOO!

here is something else that I found so you don't have to constantly look for it that I ripped from another website. Also I am compiling up some vid references on this playlist.
Avatar: Reference Videos

The fighting choreography of the show draws from martial arts; the fighting styles and weaponry are based on Chinese martial arts, with each bending art corresponding to a certain real-world style. The creators referred to Ba Gua for airbending, Hung Gar for earthbending, Northern Shaolin for firebending, and Tai Chi for waterbending. The only exception to this is Toph, who employs a Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis style. The series employed Sifu Kisu of the Harmonious Fist Chinese Athletic Association as a martial arts consultant.

Each fighting style was chosen to represent the element it projected:

* Tai Chi focuses on alignment, body structure, breath, and visualization. This technique is the foundation of "Waterbending" in the series.
* Hung Gar was chosen for its firmly rooted stances and powerful strikes to represent the solid nature of earth. This martial art is the basis of "Earthbending" in the series.
o Chu Gar Southern Praying Mantis has distinguishing movements and unique footwork that are employed by Toph Bei Fong to complement her blindness, giving her a unique style of Earthbending.
* Northern Shaolin Kung Fu uses strong arm and leg movements. This technique is the foundation of "Firebending" in the series.
* Ba Gua uses erratic, circular movements. This technique uses centripetal force to generate power, and uses nearly constant circular movement to create angles between the combatants. This martial art is the basis of "Airbending" in the series.

Avatar draws on the four classical elements common to most ancient philosophies (rather than the five classical Chinese elements) for its bending arts: Water, Earth, Fire and Air. Although each has its own variation, most ancient philosophies incorporate these four elements in some way: examples include the classical Hindu, Buddhist, Greek and Japanese elemental traditions.

In the show’s opening, each element is accompanied by 2 Chinese characters: an ancient Chinese seal script character on the left, and a modern Chinese character on the right:

* Water
* Earth
* Fire
* Air

Fire Avatar Rough

Post by jackdcember on Mon Jan 20, 2014 12:39 am

Ok so here is what I've been working on for this. If we are going to go with a future setting I wanted to give our avatar some future-like tools and suit. I know some people said they wanted him to be a lightning bender as well so I thought it'd be cool if he had a sword/whip that he could charge up and use. So I was also thinking that if he can shoot lightning what if he was the first avatar to master all the 2 types of bending of each element (metal bending, blood bending, shooting lightning, and maybe we can make something up for air cause I don't think air has one). I also gave him a backpack that could either store some water for him to bend or maybe a roll of metal bending cables or both. So that's my concept. I haven't heard if we decided on a gender yet or not, but it doesn't matter to me. I just wanted to draw something up to toss some ideas out there.

So these are some concept character for the earthbender. I do like the main character first, but he may be a too much of a weeny. the other is just like a country boy who likes to move with the flow. I'LL HAVE MORE SOON!

Here are some airbender doodles. The first main girl I was thinking would act like Tenzin, she takes it seriously and gets offended easily, but... nah...

But then I started to have a little fun with this girl Camille.
She was born in the fire nation but was born with airbender powers. She didn't really discover till a couple of years ago before she went to an airbender temple.
An issue that she has is she knows the moves of fire nation, so she has a little trouble getting the hand of air bender, so she messes the moves up often. Some time they back fire hard on her. But she is very determined to figure it out, as you can see her taking hours just to get a tornado in her hands to work. She's not totally a wimp, because she does try over and over again, it just don't click for her.

So I thought I try my hand in clothing concepts for the air nomad. This was really hard, because ether I just wasn't making it click or just bad with cloth or very tired.

Cool cool, the animation above is coming out very well. I looke forward to more bending and effects.
I can already see the specific flow of the martial art the water benders use.

I felt like I haven't updated for a while, so here are some stuff I've been working on that i can show.

(fire Nation concept doodles)

(air Nation concept doodles plus advertising logos)

(things in the air nation, trying to get future feel)

(a line are of an air temple)

(fire fight in the storage area.)

I am so sorry peps, I've had a hell of a time. I got a new job so I can't show up to class by default. I break my motherboard so I can't even do homework by default. My internet is suffering major seizures so I can't even send in my work. But now that aside from my training at work, is all resolved.
I'll do everything in my power to get back on task for the project.

Also, please tell me what you think, because I will NOT be seeing you guys for a while.

Here is some more progress, I thought of making the blast of fire, then this swish of flame when he steps backwards as he forces it into this ball of energy which will transition into the electrical bolt.
